Components - Administrative Issues

This area of the study analyzes the non-physical capacity issues that may be an impediment to the efficient movement of freight in our region. The focus of this area is on size and weight regulations, hazardous material transportation, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) projects that relate to freight.

A tentative list of products that come from this area of the study follows.

1. Administrative and Legislative Issues Matrices
Representations of the size, weight, and load regulatory inconsistencies across the region and their impacts.
2. GIS map illustrating size and weight regulations
A GIS map illustrating the compatibility and inconsistencies in size and weight regulations on the designated highways in the study region.
3. Analysis of Size and Weight Exemptions by State and Commodity
A tabular listing of commodity along with size, weight and load exemptions for each state in the Upper Midwest Freight Corridor. The table includes the regulatory deviation from state and federal statute for each exemption.
4. Status of CVISN Implementation
A tabular summary of the CVISN implementation projects in each state in the region along with information about technologies choices. A tabular summary the CVISN/ITS projects in the region along with cooperating agencies. A GIS map showing the location of CVISN/ITS projects and technology deployment on roadways in the study region.
5. Map Representation of Administrative Support Facilities in the Region

The lead researcher in this area is Dr. Teresa Adams, with assistance from three graduate students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
